Spending Christmas in a dorm room if you are away from your family can be a really strange and not very happy feeling. I know this because I have done this 2 times. During this time, campuses are really quiet, flights are really expensive and especially if you are an international student and you don't have a family here it can be really lonely time

So I have done some research, put some personal experience and have written this blog post for you. If you are a student in a dorm room, these are the some activities that college students can do for Christmas if you are staying at campus or Shared apartment.

1) Cheap Hot Chocolate + Movie Night

Fun group Christmas activities on campus. I'm pretty sure you can find some other students who are in just your shoes and have the same experience.

This is my favorite cheap hot chocolate plus movie night. Nothing can beat this. Turn your dorm room into mini screen or just take your laptop on a shared screen and hot chocolate packs and watch some great Christmas movies. There are tons of out there and you know you can choose movie with your partners and friends. This is one of my best.

2) Decorating your own Christmas

Decorating your own Christmas tree is a really cool thing that you can do. You can show your creativity and use cardboard and bees of paper lights and washi tapes. Make a snowflakes and you can decorate your own Christmas tree or your dome room. This is really fun activity.

3)Everyone Brings One Thing

Okay, this one is really fun. Potluck or everyone bringing one thing for dinner. If you don't know how to cook this is really fun activity. In this each person can bring one snack one drink or one simple dish from their home. And so you can enjoy different meals from different people at the same time having variety of good food.

4) Game Night

Okay, gaming night who doesn't know like the gaming night you can play, Card games, UNO, Phone party games, add dares like: loser sings a carol, share your most chaotic holiday memory it may sounds simple but has lots of laughs and fun.

5) Mini Self-Care Spa Night

This is one of those activities which sounds is a astheic as it sound taking a long shower with some extra conditioner as a hair mask and doing a basic skincare and listing to calm music or a podcast and let the day feel gentle is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

6) Write a Letter to Future You

This one of the activities that helped me during the time i felt lonely, so that writhing your thoughts down or writhing a letter about:

  • What this year was like

  • What hurt

  • What you hope is different by next Christmas

Some email tools let you schedule it to send in a year, turning it into a time capsule and make you feel better.

7) Life and Study Reset Before Next Term and year

If you are not interested in having fun and if you are really serious about your career. You can do quick night reset and study reset before next year. It can help you prepare better for coming year while others are making new year resolutions. You have already prepared for new year and already started.

A quiet day is perfect for a soft reset.

Clean and Organize

  • Clear your desk

  • Do laundry

  • Organize laptop files

  • Delete unused apps

Small wins create mental space.

Set a Few Realistic Goals

Write 3–5 honest goals, like:

  • Sleep 30 minutes more

  • Pass one tough class

  • Apply to internships

  • Build one daily habit

You don’t need a dramatic “new year, new me.” Small goals stick.

So, as a final thoughts, this isn't about forcing or cheering or suppressing your emotions that you are homesick. It's about having some kind of activity and some kind of purpose so that you still feel productive and giving your best. And I would like to tell you that you will be in better place and trust yourself and if you are reading this alone, its not for a long time, just in different chapter and keep going.
