Introduction
Perplexity's new Comet browser started a revolution and race of new AI browsers.
If you as a student is not using comet you are definitely missing out a lot of features that can take your learning to next level.
Comet is not a generic browser with AI features.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas explained in a recent interview, "The second brain doesn't mean a dump of data. A brain can think with you, another brain can think with you, and you can delegate what your first brain, the core brain finds boring and mundane and tiring, delegated to the second brain."
Instead of copying text between tabs to ask AI questions, you have access to assistant that handles boring tasks while you focus on what matters.
In this guide, you will learn how to install Comet on your Mac and Windows PC and how it can be useful for you as a student.
Comet is completely free for all users. Max subscribers get access to Background Assistants and Email Assistant, which automate entire workflows while you sleep.

Key Features for Students
1. AI Assistant on Every Page
Comet puts an AI assistant directly into your browser sidebar. Click the Assistant button on any webpage to ask questions about what you see. The AI reads the entire page and answers your questions without leaving the site.
This is a extremely useful feature, I have been using it to summarize YouTube videos it saves me so many hours of work.
You can use this feature to break down research papers, summarize video lectures and many more.
2. Automatic Tab Organization
Comet groups your open tabs by topic and closes the ones you have not touched in days. The browser learns your work patterns and creates collections for different projects.
Eg -if you open 15 tabs for your history essay on Monday and by Wednesday, you can get those tabs organized next to your biology research.
This is one of he coolest features that I liked really helpful for person like me who find it hard to organize certain things especally tabs, when I work literally I have 20-30 tabs open in chrome and safari at the same time. So this is really a game changer for me.
You can even ask Comet to organize your tabs and watch the browser sort everything into labeled groups.
3. Email and Calendar Management
You can Connect your Gmail to Comet and ask questions about your inbox through the assistant. The AI finds important emails you missed and surfaces meeting details. You ask Comet to show you emails from professors this week and the assistant can pulls three messages.
Conclusion
Comet gives you an AI assistant built into every webpage you visit. As a Student it can be a really good tool that will save you hours each week by automating research, summarizing articles, and managing their workspace without switching between apps.
Just remember that their might be privacy concerns so before giving any access and permission always double check.
